Equalities
Thythorn Field Primary School is committed for all pupils, their parents, staff and other users of the school. The Governing Body is committed to tackling discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers, visitors and community users of the premises, irrespective of race, gender, disability, faith or religion, sexual orientation, age and socio-economic background. The Governing Body is committed to promoting community cohesion at school, local, national and global levels.

Complying With The Public Sector Equality Duty
The Governing Body of Thythorn Field Primary School aims to meet its obligations under the public sector equality duty and reflect the legal duties under the Equality Act 2010:

• To eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
• To advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
• To foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

 The duty covers nine protected characteristics:

• Age (for employees)
• Disability
• Race (including ethnic or national origins, colour or nationality)
• Gender (including issues of transgender)
• Gender Reassignment
• Maternity and Pregnancy
• Religion and Belief (includes lack of belief)
• Sexual Identity
• Marriage and Civil Partnership (for employees)

Promoting Equality
Thythorn Field Primary School operates equality of practice in the following ways:

• We are proud to be an 'Everyone Welcome' school
• We focus on the 9 protected characteristics
• We promote attitudes and values that challenge racist and other discriminatory behaviour or prejudice through our 'Everyone Welcome' work, assemblies and discussions
• We collect and analyse contextual and achievement data to identify gaps in achievement and to target intervention strategies to support vulnerable individuals and groups of pupils
• We ensure equality of access for all pupils and preparing them for life in a diverse society
• We use materials that reflect the diversity of the school population and the local community in terms of race, gender, disability, ethnic and socio-economic background, without stereotyping
• We deal effectively with any discriminatory incidents that may occur 
• We record and monitor prejudice-related incidents
• We provide opportunities for pupils to appreciate their own culture and celebrate the diversity of other cultures
• We seek to involve all parents in supporting their child's education
• We include teaching and learning approaches appropriate for the whole school population
• We consult with outside agencies regarding recommendations to improve access for children and adults
• We ensure all activities, including after-school activities, are open to all, making reasonable adjustment where appropriate
• We consider equality implications when reviewing or developing policies or procedures
• We adhere to recruitment and selection processes which are fair, equitable and in line with statutory duties and Leicestershire County Council guidelines
• We ensure all staff receive annual performance reviews (Performance Management Policy)
• We provide training and development opportunities to all staff (linked to the School Improvement Plan)
• We publish equality objectives and action plans on the school's website
• We monitor and review our equality objectives regularly
• We publish information each year about our school population
• All visitors to the school, including parents and carers are expected to support the school's commitment to equality as expressed in the Equalities Policy. They are also expected to support our 'Everyone Welcome' ethos

Leicestershire County Council operates a fair and transparent admissions policy for the school and does not discriminate on the grounds of their gender, race, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity.
